Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Thursday

On the third day (or the fourth, depending on where you were currently huddled), the Toymaker cracked his knuckles and got to work: hallways shifted again, and groups that had been able to interact were cut off again. Gravity grew heavier to make it harder to walk, to run, to find the energy to move around.

The maze shifted again, and those trapped inside would have to see what new surprises awaited them today. The Toymaker wasn't done playing with them, even as their numbers began to dwindle. No, not at all.

"I don't think there is," Jack said, doubtfully, before he finally got it. "... so this place is messing with us even more. Fantastic."

He held out the cupcakes to Kitty. "Want some breakfast? Don't break your wrist lifting one."

"I'll take like half of one, thanks," she said, reaching for one. "I'm going to go out again, see what I can bring back and who's around. Energy would not be a bad thing."

"I'll be doing the same thing -- I'd like to see if I can find the path to the other group," Jack said. "And there are still plenty of locked cars in the garage, if the statues don't spook you."

It didn't occur to him the garage might not be reachable anymore.

"I wouldn't chance the garage," Kitty advised. "A couple kids from the other group disappeared there."

"So that's out now," Jack winced. "Who disappeared? How?"

He would have come up with more creative questions, but 'who' and 'how' about covered it.

"Ace and Topher. Jim said the statues got them somehow," she said. "Those things were fast, too. I saw one of them too and barely got to the door. And that was with me cheating."

"Dinah and I noticed one moving, but it didn't attack," Jack said, looking stricken. "It ... doesn't feel much like luck, but I guess that's what it was."

"Yeah, I know. Vampires and all I can handle, but knowing I came that close to being... who knows where else is freaky," she admitted.

Jack nodded, agreeing. "I don't think I've ever felt so helpless before," he said. "Even when the world was disappearing we knew what was happening. This -- there's no explanation."

"I'm stick on being annoyed," Kitty said. "Someone wants to watch us twist, I get it, but that's no reason to not tell us anything. Unspoken etiquette is still etiquette."

And this was why she'd never really not be an X-Man.

Jack laughed, "There's an unspoken etiquette to kidnappings?"

It sounded much stranger if you'd never been an X-man.

"Yes! We've been here four days and there are no clues, no gloating, no demands, no nothing," Kitty said, actually a little offended at whoever was in charge here. "We don't even know who has us. It's like this bad guy has no common decency."

"Bastard. Next thing you know, he'll be taking away our bowling shoes," Jack said, going for lightness and falling short.

Kitty paused.

"I think I've developed Stockholm Syndrome for the bowling shoes because that just made me sad."

And then she'd have to find shoes.

"Really?" Jack asked, raising an eyebrow. "So I suppose that means we shouldn't make delicious bowling shoe soup for dinner."

"That's just gross. I'm not desperate enough to eat anything that probably tastes like feet," Kitty pointed out. "Yet."
