It would probably be the most awkward hug ever, but it wouldn't be unwelcome. It had been way too long since Allie had let herself lean on someone else.
Knowing what was coming, Allie unconsciously clenched her fist, unable to stop watching and turn away.
"Hey!" Past Allie yelled as she closed her hand around the blade of the knife and pulled. The rabid's sightless eyes snapped to her at scent of fresh blood."That's right. Look at me. Not him!" She took a step backwards trying to keep another of the abandoned cars between them. "Stick, get moving. Find the drain-it'll take you back to the city."
He didn't answer, his eyes still locked on the rabid as it tracked Allie's movements.
"Stick, you spineless little shit! Move it now!"
The rabid shrieked and lunged.
Even knowing it was probably futile, Past Allie ran.
