It was the perfect thing to do. If Kaidan was paying attention, he'd probably notice the Allie's slight shift as she leaned into his touch.

It was like watching a movie. Images flashing and changing as Allie dashed between cars, trying to get away.

The hunk of concrete in her hand as she spun and bashed at the head of rabid. It screamed and dropped to the ground, struggling to get up as Allie brought the rock down once more and bashed in the back of its skull.

She sank to her knees in short-lived relief, because suddenly hisses were all around her.

Turning slowly, Allie watched a rabid slid out from under a car, a branch clutched in one claw. Except the branch had five fingers and the tattered remains of a shirt hanging from it. Spotting Allie, it dropped the arm and crept forward.

Another rabid followed, another leaped to the roof of a car, hissing. Allie spun and faced two more, pale, dead eyes fastened on her.

In the distance a dark figure was striding forward, something bright gleaming in his hand.

Despite knowing it was futile, survival instincts kicked in and Past Allie tried to run.
