Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Saturday

And then the pathways slammed shut.

Oh, not all of them. Most of them simply rearranged themselves. But whatever had connected each camp to another had been violently stripped away. They were alone now, and they were easy prey. At least the winds had settled down...

The maze had grown more erratic, however. Instead of speeding up time for all, it was now slowing it down at random in different places. Anyone caught in a sudden bubble of it would find themselves slowing down compared to the rest of the world. Awkward.

"Hey, don't hurt yourself. That's the last thing we need right now," Clint said. "How are you holding up after yesterday?"

She had to actually think about it a little. "That's a complicated answer," she said with a sigh. "I kind of thought when I came here, I wouldn't have to deal with my friends dying in horrible ways anymore. Apparently that's too much to ask."

"I'm sorry," Clint said genuinely. "Whoever's behind this is going to pay for everything they're putting us through, I can guarantee it."

"Yep. That's what happens when you physically and mentally traumatize a town full of badasses," Kitty agreed, sighing and leaning against the wall. "I promised Laura I'd look out for him, you know. I never even managed to see him here."

"I'm sure... well, she wouldn't understand because there's no good way to explain this," Clint said, reaching to try to hug Kitty. "There's nothing you could have done."

"I know," she said, hugging him back. Seriously, hugs were just needed this weekend, and she'd just need them more later. "But the last time I saw him he walked out because I was teasing him about something. I don't think I've reconciled it all yet."

Also she hadn't found a new shirt since yesterday, so it was entirely possible she still had blood on her. So, there was that.

Hey, when you were friends with Natasha, a little blood just wasn't that big of a deal. "Don't feel bad about that. You didn't know what would happen," he insisted.

"Yeah. Just... better memories to go out on," Kitty said. "I just want to get out of here before that happens to anyone else, and then I want to have a clothes-burning party, and then I want to go anywhere else."

"Have you been thinking of places?" he asked, smiling to lighten the mood. "Somewhere warm? Or just far?"

"Somewhere with food. And a real bed with way too many pillows. And time in the actual outdoors so there has to be nice weather." She paused. "That's probably a little general, huh?"

"Well, it does cut a lot of places out. Whole countries even. Australia's out completely," Clint said. "So, northern hemisphere, got it. Does it have to be somewhere we know the language?"

Kitty thought about it. "I don't think so. We can point at menus and learn how to say 'We want more pillows' in whatever language," she decided. "Do you have criteria?"

"Hot, clean showers," Clint said, without missing a beat. "I'm a simple guy with simple requests."

"Oh my god, showers. How was that not on my list?" she wondered. "This is going to end in the most random search results ever."

"Hot showers, decent food - oh, and clothing stores. Just in case," Clint said with a nod. "I mean, it's been interesting getting my own, but still."

"How'd you get that, anyway?" she wondered. She hadn't found much luck in the clothes department.

"I robbed some bad people," Clint said with a grin. "There was a bar in one of the weird rooms, and there weren't any lady bad people or I'd have gotten some for you too. There were women there but they all had these little bikinis and you would have killed me."

Kitty couldn't believe she could laugh at anything here, but she did at that. "It would have come in handy in the flooding room, but not many other places, no."

"We can find you a real one for warm beach weather, or something," Clint said. "We're getting closer to getting out of here every day." They had to be, or he didn't know what they'd do.

"We are," she agreed. "Which is why the list is getting refined to 'somewhere with a beach.'"

They were definitely getting out of here soon. She wanted this vacation, dammit.
