Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Saturday

And then the pathways slammed shut.

Oh, not all of them. Most of them simply rearranged themselves. But whatever had connected each camp to another had been violently stripped away. They were alone now, and they were easy prey. At least the winds had settled down...

The maze had grown more erratic, however. Instead of speeding up time for all, it was now slowing it down at random in different places. Anyone caught in a sudden bubble of it would find themselves slowing down compared to the rest of the world. Awkward.

Stiles hadn't left this camp last night and he couldn't really say he was fretting about being cut off again. He thought (albeit maybe too hopefully) that he was past the crying stage of grief and had a settled firmly into the part where you sit against a wall and stare at nothing for awhile.

He was miserable, but at least he wasn't crying again.

Rilla had finally gotten Jims to sleep and was taking the opportunity to get a tiny bit of space.

"Do you need something to eat?" she asked softly.

"No, I'm fine," Stiles said, his voice sounding a bit raw. "Kind of afraid if I eat something I'll throw up."

"Maybe there's tea around?" Rilla said, worrying her lower lip. "I can't guarantee it'll be hot..."

"Well, no, but a girl can dream, right?" Rilla said with a tiny smile. "Tea helps most things and makes me feel better when nothing else really does. You look like you could stand some cheering up."

"What kind of tea are you drinking?" That fact that he could use cheering up probably wasn't up for debate, so he decided not to acknowledge it.

For some strange reason, Stiles had most of Kitty's concern today, and while she didn't want to keep checking up on him every five minutes, she did want to make sure he knew she was still there.

So she sat against the wall next to him, not saying anything for the moment.

Stiles appreciated the company. Or, rather, he appreciated knowing where Kitty was at all times. The thought of that made him frown. "My dad is going to freak out when he finds out I've gone missing."

"We'll be out of here soon enough," Kitty told him, because she was in that mode where that was just a thing that was Going To Happen Dammit. "You'll be able to call and tell him you're okay."

"He might drag me off and lock me in a tower somewhere," he said. "This is the second time I've gone missing in less than a year."

"Actually third, but he didn't know about the one kidnapping."

Kitty frowned a little. "No more kidnappings for a while," she said gently. "I can talk to him, if you want. We couldn't prevent this one at all."

"If you can try to word it so he doesn't know anything about the supernatural, sure," Stiles said, drawing his knees up to his chest and wrapping his arms around them. "He doesn't know anything about all that."

Talking about his issues with his dad meant that he wasn't thinking about Derek. Both situations sucked, but at least his dad was still alive somewhere.

Derek wasn't one of Clint's favorite people by a longshot, but that didn't mean Clint was enjoying seeing Stiles miserable. "Hey," he said quietly, sitting down next to Stiles. "How are you holding up?"

"Not terrible, all things considered. I'm sorry," Clint said with genuine sympathy. "None of you should be dealing with this kind of crap right now."

"Bound to happen eventually, right?" Stiles said. "Maybe not this situation specifically but, you know, losing people."

"Yeah, it's something I'm pretty familiar with," Clint said. "But there's losing people, and there's losing people right in front of you. Neither way is easy, but...I'm glad you're here in one piece."

"Thanks," Stiles said, although he didn't seem to thrilled about it. "Derek was a good guy. I know it didn't seem that way, but he was."

Jack had not dealt well with the news Derek was gone. He'd spent the day before mindlessly exploring corridors until he felt sane -- or at least the next thing to sane -- enough to talk to Stiles without shouting or weeping.

Both seemed to be at bay now. He spoke calmly, though Jack's eyes were rimmed with red if one looked closely.

"It does," Jack said, because he saw no point in lying. "But wasting away isn't going to help anything."

"I'm not wasting away, I'm just not hungry," Stiles insisted. "Might as well save food for someone who needs it."

Jack considered it, relented. No one was going to die after a day or two without food, anyhow.

"All right," he said. "I just -- wanted to feel like I'm doing something."
