Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Sunday Morning

The dungeon had shifted again overnight.

This time it was different, however: no new corridors were formed, no new rooms were opened. One camp's corridor led into another's led into another's, and from there, a path straight forward towards the vault. It would not be hard now for the Fandomites trapped inside to meet and congregate.

Was the Toymaker making it easy on them? Possible. But not very probable.

Something was telling Eric to stay awake right now, to fight the urge to sleep. Blood leaked slowly from his ears as he stared into the dead fireplace as he wondered what that meant now.

"Is that normal?" Natalie asked, as she came over to give the fireplace a closer look. Because yes, it probably meant something. "That you're leaking blood from your ears?"

She made no assumptions. There were a lot of stranger things happening all around.

"It means I should be asleep, but I'm a thousand years old. I can ignore that impulse if I try hard enough," Eric replied.

"... Huh." Well, that was new. And yet she didn't have the energy to put into being all that surprised. "So I'm guessing you feel like something's about to happen, too."

Eric nodded. "You smell like blood."

Because he'd notice that.

Well, Natalie was going to put two and two together between that and the thousand years comment. And then not waste her breath on remarking on it.

"After days of fighting and with a fresh cut on my face? Never would have guessed."

"I won't eat you," Eric said helpfully, "if you were worried."

"I wasn't," she said, mildly. "Already had someone try that earlier, and it didn't work. And since you're in camp, I assume you want to go home as much as I do. It'd be dumb to turn on me now."

"Give it a few more days," Eric said with a not-so-reassuring smile.

"I would kick your teeth in."

Her absolutely neutral tone said she'd at least give the attempt her all.

"So please just be useful in whatever happens today, and we won't have to test that."

"You could try," Eric said, not bothering to hide his amusement.

"You look like shit," Bo said, because tact was for... actually she could do tact, most days, but he really did look like shit. Ear-blood. "Hot Viking shit that I'd totally still jump if we weren't in the middle of a crisis and more of an audience than I like, but still. That can't be healthy."

"Well, thank you," Eric said with a tiny smile. "Ear-blood thing?"

"It's a little hard to miss. Not that any of us look that great right now, I guess." In fact given the company... "Or smell that great."

"We should probably shower together when we get out of here to save on water," Eric declared altruistically.

"I have a bathtub the size of Lake Minnewhapo," Bo pointed out. "Just sayin'."

Not that she knew her other boss' seven-year old had been frolicking in it all weekend...

"I think that sounds like an excellent plan," Eric decided.
