Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Wednesday, Day Two of Two

At Fandom, the sun reached its highest point in the sky. Down (or was it up?) here in the dungeon, a next day broke, each hour occupying the space of only half. It was only noticeable to those with keen senses, or those who might've kept an eye on the fireplaces: the figurines had switched places again as night changed.

Well. It might have also been noticeable to anyone who'd wandered into a room with a sky and a visible sun.

Cade didn't look entirely convinced but he wasn't going to push it. "If you say so."

Natalie rolled her eyes, 'if you say so' being one of those phrases that just sounded like 'I'm not buying it but okay' to her.

"I just have a few impressive bruises. You're free to look them over but I doubt it'll do much."

"It'll impress me with how much of a badass you are," Cade said, "but I know that already."

There were circumstances where Natalie would've at least half smiled at that. But this wasn't it.

The lighting here was dim, but her skin was very pale, so when she rolled the hem of her t-shirt up some, and pulled the waist of her pajama bottoms down a little bit to expose a wide strip of skin, the bruises were obvious. One low on her stomach, a bigger one on her hip.

"They're just a little sore."

Cade hissed in a breath. "Echuta. Think there's ice packs around?"

"Haven't looked but I doubt it." Because that would just be too convenient, wouldn't it? "I'll deal."

"There doesn't seem to be another option here," Cade agreed.

"Not until we get out of here," Natalie agreed with a nod, covering up her bruises again. "But if we stay smart, we will."

"Well, there we'll have a problem," Cade said. "I'm not that smart."

"Well, you're also not dead, so you must still be doing something right."

"Well, I'm also a survivor," Cade said with a shrug. "I just have to be smarter than the next dumbest guy."

"And that's smart enough." Her standards were maybe lowered to a dungeon-appropriate level, right now. She sighed. "I think I'll brave the maze again tomorrow."

Well, you couldn't let one little vampire incident get you down for... more than two days.

"Make sure you come back too," Cade said, which was what passed for concern with him.

"I'm touched by your concern." A little sarcasm never hurt anyone, especially when it was covering up a sliver of truth. "But yes, that's the idea."

"Good," Cade said with a little smile. "We need all the body heat we can get in this karking place."

Well, Natalie gave that a quiet snort. Which was about as far as she was going to go in the direction of being amused, under the circumstances.

"Well, I don't think I give off too much of that in the first place."

"You seem pretty warm to me," Cade said.

"Is that an assessment of my body temperature, my temperament, or just some kind of a euphemism?"

Sometimes you had to ask these things. Mostly, in Natalie's case, when you wanted the distraction.

If only because the dungeon situation meant that hurting people was even more pointless than usual.

"Well, unless you've gone suddenly reptilian on me, you're still pretty warm," Cade pointed out, "and I've never really trusted the overly effusive types. Seem to be trying to hard, you know?"
