Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Wednesday, Day Two of Two

At Fandom, the sun reached its highest point in the sky. Down (or was it up?) here in the dungeon, a next day broke, each hour occupying the space of only half. It was only noticeable to those with keen senses, or those who might've kept an eye on the fireplaces: the figurines had switched places again as night changed.

Well. It might have also been noticeable to anyone who'd wandered into a room with a sky and a visible sun.

"I'm touched by your concern." A little sarcasm never hurt anyone, especially when it was covering up a sliver of truth. "But yes, that's the idea."

Well, Natalie gave that a quiet snort. Which was about as far as she was going to go in the direction of being amused, under the circumstances.

"Well, I don't think I give off too much of that in the first place."

"You seem pretty warm to me," Cade said.

"Is that an assessment of my body temperature, my temperament, or just some kind of a euphemism?"

Sometimes you had to ask these things. Mostly, in Natalie's case, when you wanted the distraction.

If only because the dungeon situation meant that hurting people was even more pointless than usual.

"Well, unless you've gone suddenly reptilian on me, you're still pretty warm," Cade pointed out, "and I've never really trusted the overly effusive types. Seem to be trying to hard, you know?"

That was probably a joke.

"It's the bit that counts," Natalie told him, then went to pat him on his uninjured cheek. Because she felt like it, and these were the times when some whims got through simply because she couldn't keep everything in check in the usual way.

And yes, her hand was basic human warm. "Knew you couldn't be trusted."

"Well, sometimes," Cade admitted. "Not a lot to laugh about at home anyway."

He looked around. "Not a lot to laugh about here, either."

"Somehow. You just watch." And she believed that because she had no choice. "I'm not about to die in some random dungeon that's playing by Fandom rules. So, we'll get out of here."
