Re: A Strange Vault in the Center of the Maze

They weren't supposed to wander off alone. Zeela knew that and knew why that was a bad idea, but she was still in a mood and didn't want to deal with people. Even inside her own head, Zhahar was cuddling Sholeh (Sholeh had fallen asleep again and Zeela was getting worried, which meant more ill-temper and stupid decisions because there wasn't really anything they could do until they got out of this and ate regular meals again and, ugh! this was the WORST!).

So Zeela was mostly stomping around, poking at things in the hallway and avoiding any shadowy corners. And somewhere in the midst of her stomping, she found a door. Which, you know, wasn't all that surprising, considering they were in some kind of maze, but this door was huge. And locked. Zeela didn't think any of the other doors had been locked...

But there were little hollows, of a sorts, in the door. She tried to figure out what they meant, but they were incomprehensible.

=Hey, Sholeh,= Zeela nudged softly. =There's a riddle here. I could really use your help.=

Sholeh roused herself a bit from her lethargy to peek through Zeela's eyes. ::It looks like you need some kind of key,:: she murmured. ::Three keys. They'll fit in the...the thingies there.::

=The indentations?= Zeela asked.

::Yeah, those,:: Sholeh replied with a yawn, before retreating back again.

Zeela was still worried about her sister, but the word 'key' stuck out in her mind. She reached for the weird gremlin figurine from the fireplace that morning. It was holding a key, yes, but she couldn't pry the key off. Before she could forget the idea as stupid, Zhahar piped up.

*Not the actual key,* she said, excited. *Look! The first indent kinda looks like the bottom of the figurine! Put it in!*

=That's what she said,= Zeela snarked, even as she followed her sister's directions. It fit. Fit perfectly. And when she went to pull it back out, the figure resisted, as if it didn't want to give the figurine back. =What do you think it means?=

::It's a key,:: Sholeh said again, sounding more like her old self for the first time in over a day. ::This place has a lot of doors that are unlocked that we're supposed to go into. Here's one door that is locked, which means we probably aren't.::

=And that means we want to go into it, doesn't it?= Zeela asked, eyes narrowing and her lips curving into a nasty smile. =Let's go tell the others. We're looking for keys!=
