Twisting Paths of the Dungeon, Somewhere, Thursday

The pathways of the dungeon had changed overnight. Anyone who had stayed in a room beyond their welcome had found themselves booted out back onto the hallways that belonged to their camp and feeling pressed down by the sudden increase in gravity. The doors of yesterday had closed. Other doors had now opened.

And other routes.

"Then I hope there's another group," Jaina said. "Though I haven't seen any sign of one. Which is obviously what whoever's doing this wants."

Anakin nodded, tapping a finger against his jaw. "Do you think it's an attempt to keep us all disoriented somehow? That could explain why the paths keep changing."

"Possible. Especially when they're running us down by making us forage for things like food while running for our lives. It takes its toll eventually."

Anakin's frown deepened. "Like the gravity. This is fiendishly clever."

"I'd rather not compliment the obviously crazy person," Jaina said.

"I never said it was nice," protested Anakin. "Or even advisable."

Jaina had to smile. "I've missed you."

Anakin couldn't help laughing. "I knew I was missing something: getting a lecture from you. Now this adventure is complete."

"No, a lecture would involve me telling you to not go through any door that's obviously going to lead to bad things or to make sure there's always something that can be used as a weapon." She paused. "So, now it's a lecture."

"Oh, good. Now it's really complete." Anakin looked down at the baton in his hand and sighed. "I could use a better weapon, but how many of the doors that lead to bad things in here have been obvious ones so far? Besides, what if those are the ones where I have the best chance of getting a better weapon?"

"Like the door that smelled like dead things? Skip stuff like that," she clarified. "Just be careful, is what I'm saying."

She'd be more emphatic about this in a few hours.

"Aren't I always?" Anakin asked.

Not really, Anakin, no.

Jaina just looked at him.

Anakin tried to look innocent for a couple of seconds before giving up.

"Well . . . I always handle things." Also not true according to anyone else. "I can take care of myself, you know that."

"I know you can. Doesn't mean I don't do the big sister thing," Jaina said. Also she really would rather he had a lightsaber.

He would really rather he had one too!

"I guess it is your job," Anakin conceded. "You wouldn't be you if you didn't."
