Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Friday

A strong wind tore through the hallways. Inside the camps, it was only audible: no breeze flicked into the large chambers themselves. Outside them, though, torches would flicker on and off on their own whim, exposing the dungeon's residents to errant grues.

There was something to be celebrated, though: when the maze shifted overnight, its paths crossed and connected all three camps. Time for a reunion.

"I remember this guy. He showed up at the mess before my graduation." Dinah reached out to poke the kraken, nibbling on a stale Hostess cupcake. "It's all stuff from Fandom. Whoever's done this has been watching us for... a while."

"It would be number thirteen on the list of 'terrifying things Natalie V. Adams could do if she ever felt it was necessary to put her mind to it'," Peter said merrily.

She nodded. "I'm a Jedi. I tend not to do things like that unless I have to for ethical reasons, but again, extenuating circumstances."

Natalie snorted. "Thirteen? I would've expected it to be lower than that. Unless this ranking is based on something other than the amount of terror involved."

"You don't think the figure's random?" Maddie asked, not having been here long enough to recognize anything.

"I think you can be a lot more terrifying than that," Peter said. "I mean, now that I've seen what you're like in the morning..."

Exactly like normal-grade Natalie.

"Nuh-unh." Dinah broke off a bit of cupcake and offered it to the other girl. "They had a locker the first day. There's one at the school that'll eat you and spit you out somewhere else if you're not careful. And there was some other stuff that you can only find on the Island. This is beyond creepy."

"Yeah... I remember hearing about the vampires and wishing I'd been here for that. Not so much wishing it any more." Too bad Kennedy had no idea how apt the word 'wishing' was when talking about that situation, at least the way it'd happened in her world.

"I don't know," she added, a faint note of annoyance in her voice; not that she had the patience to dig for the answers, but she hated not knowing them. "Other than messing with us, I don't know. It's not like you can say they're all meant to give us bad flashbacks when not everyone here's lived through all of it."

"And, for as glad as I am to have gained certain insights into the experiences of Fandomites past, I can honestly say I could've gone without finding out that half the people I care about here have been attacked by vampires since Tuesday."

Vampire issues. Yep.

"The sooner we figure out how to get out of here and back to our own bloody version of the island, the better. In the meantime... I suppose we make do."

"Thanks," Maddie said, taking the bit of cupcake. "That's so messed up. So I guess they have to mean something?"

"Maybe?" Dinah frowned at the kraken, biting her lip. "I wish I'd been paying more attention to these little guys, if there is. Our luck, it's been spelling out an SOS for the last four days, and we missed the part about how to get out of here." She glanced over and smiled. "I'm Dinah, by the way."

Stephanie crammed a couple of the soggy pretzels into her mouth, making only minimal grossed-out faces, before reminding herself that she should probably spare some for the others and putting the bag down with an abashed look on her face.

"Well, may you have better luck than I've been having, when you do," she told Kitty. "I might take another stab -- no pun intended, for once in my life -- at it myself later, just in case I do get lucky for once."

". . . not like . . . never mind."

April snapped her fingers into a finger-gun. "You're a pal," she said.

If she sounded a little more callous and offhand than usual... well, yeah. Came with the territory.

"Ugh. Yeah. I have issues enough about that at home," Kennedy grumbled.

She dropped down to sit cross-legged on the floor and propped her chin up in her hands. "I swear, they don't make Fandom crises the way they used to when we were in school."

Off her lawn, kids. Or something.

Jono was giving April a dubious sort of look, but he brushed the callousness off as... stress, perhaps. Something about this place that was getting to everybody, really.

"I try," he settled on, finally. "If there's anything else you need later, luv, don't hesitate to ask."

Kitty laughed a bit, and realized it'd been a while since she'd done that. "Not having much luck out there?"

"What I wouldn't give for some... I don't know... more killer tomatoes or something," Jonothon sighed. "At least if we were fighting those again, we'd have food on hand. Scavenging like this isn't doing any of us any good. I'll be headed out again shortly, I think. See if I can find anything edible to bring back. With any luck, I won't end up with paws, too."

Irritated tail thump. Eartwitch. Grumble.

"Maddie," she said. "I wasn't really paying attention, either. I just thought it was a random stuff. For the next crisis, I promise not to be so new."

"First one's always the worst," Dinah said, leaning against the fireplace. Okay, that wasn't quite true. But at least you knew you weren't going randomly crazy and the world wasn't out to get you by the second one. "We had harpies attack the island. God, they stank. How long have you been at Fandom?"

"What are you trying to imply, Peter?"

Exactly nothing, and she knew it. Hence the slightly exaggerated eyebrow raise.

One corner of Kennedy's mouth twitched. "Are you going to hurt me if I say you make a freakishly adorable raccoon-thing? Because... yeah, but wow, the killer tomatoes. There's a blast from our past."

She ran a hand through her (increasingly greasy, ugh) hair. "That one made me so mad the first time, like I got cheated out of a real chance to fight things, and now... I kind of wish more of the fights I end up in were like that."

"Oh, plenty." Stephanie waved a hand, mock-breezily. "If you count falling face-first into some absurd-yet-dire situation and barely escaping by the skin of my teeth, at least."

This was not entirely accurate, as she went looking for those situations more than she blundered into them.

Key word, freakish? Jono didn't do adorable, blast it. Not if he could help it, anyhow.

"I couldn't agree more," he admitted, resisting the urge to lift his hands and try to cover those stupid ears of his. "I'll fight when I need to, of course. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't, I don't think. But some easy fights now and again, ridiculous things like toothy vegetables... I certainly wouldn't mind more of those."

They beat going up against enemies like Machinesmith or the Zodiac any day of the week. And he'd probably take them over the Blood in Glacia after Karla's graduation, too, if he had the choice.

"... And I'm not adorable."

You keep telling yourself that, Jon.

"Since January. We got through gender reassignment and kids and all that, but this is new," Maddie said.

Well, it was new for her in Fandom, anyway,

"If you or someone you know turns into a random animal, you might complete your first row of the Bingo card." Dinah took another tiny bite of the cupcake, and asked, "How are you liking it, aside from the random horrible kidnappings?"
