On the third day (or the fourth, depending on where you were currently huddled), the Toymaker cracked his knuckles and got to work: hallways shifted again, and groups that had been able to interact were cut off again. Gravity grew heavier to make it harder to walk, to run, to find the energy to move around.

The maze shifted again, and those trapped inside would have to see what new surprises awaited them today. The Toymaker wasn't done playing with them, even as their numbers began to dwindle. No, not at all.

"If it were to come to that, I would want you to," Raven said gravely. "You know I would never want to harm you or any one else. But I am certainly doing my best to make sure it will not come to that.

Like nibbling on her friends. As you do.

"Plus the vamp thing has special rules in my world," added Kennedy, sounding very put-upon. Keeping track of the differences was a pain, okay? "I don't know what we can do about it except keep an eye on people. I'm gonna guess magic's out of the question, too, if everyone's powers have gone on the fritz like Karla's."

"Mine sure as hell have." Dinah grimaced, then asked, "You still have your strength, other abilities, though, right?" She stared up at the ceiling, wondering if someone was watching. "I want to know who. And I want to know why."

"Yeah, I'm good on the powers front," Kennedy confirmed, but she grimaced. "Except for the mental-mojo link I have with Will. That's sort of... gone."

She leaned against the wall, which she meant to do more gracefully but gravity took over with a vengeance.

"I feel like a lab rat or something. Like someone's screwing with us just to see what we'll do."

"Yup. And we don't even know what kind of cheese we're working for. If the maze has a way out. How long we stay in here." Dinah grit her teeth. "Lab rats can bite, though. I wonder..."

If she jumped into something full-bore, one of those endless pits, would she find who was in charge? Was there a way to do that, and send a message back? Somehow?

"... What?"

Why and how did someone yelling Oprah-like things suddenly feel like the strangest dungeon thing to Mike? Who even knew. It just did.

Because you were being crazy, Jaina. That's why.

"Uh, thanks?"

Seriously, what did you even say to that?

Mike wanted to be in Australia now so very badly.

Alas.

"Thanks." That wasn't very sincere. "Uh, are you okay? Should you maybe have a drink of water or something?"

Mike had never run into a gremlin bite before.

Oprah totally heard that as obnoxious screaming.

"You're going to Australia!" she said, pointing randomly at someone. "And you're going to Australia! And you're! going! to! Australia!"

Seriously it should be like a solid five minutes before the audience stopped freaking out and realized they had to pay taxes on all this stuff.

Today was the day April was going to go out hunting. She pretty much had to, because she was starving, and appallingly enough, that packet of Hostess cupcakes she'd handwavily foraged before being turned now tasted like crap. So human food was off the table.

Humans as food, though, she was on board for. Eager for, even. She'd just be getting up any second now.

"I think I've developed Stockholm Syndrome for the bowling shoes because that just made me sad."

And then she'd have to find shoes.
