Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Thursday

On the third day (or the fourth, depending on where you were currently huddled), the Toymaker cracked his knuckles and got to work: hallways shifted again, and groups that had been able to interact were cut off again. Gravity grew heavier to make it harder to walk, to run, to find the energy to move around.

The maze shifted again, and those trapped inside would have to see what new surprises awaited them today. The Toymaker wasn't done playing with them, even as their numbers began to dwindle. No, not at all.

For all that she'd given Buffy crap about needing to loosen up and not try to protect everyone all the time, Kennedy-- who was way irritable by now, in between being out of contact with home, wondering whether Willow was even madder at her now, and whatever the hell was going on with everything being so heavy-- had taken her crossbow and was patrolling the corridor outside her camp, in Big Bad Protective Slayer mode herself.

Pot, kettle. Whatever.

Growing restless in the camp, Raven had decided to venture out into the corridors. She stopped suddenly when she saw a familiar person ahead of her. No, this wasn't going to be awkward.

"Hello, Kennedy," she said, wondering if her friend would be able to sense what she was now.

Well, she was pinging a little weirdly, but everything about this place was.

"God, Raven," Kennedy said in a strained version of her usual teasing delivery, forcing a laugh. "You would end up here too, wouldn't you?"

Her crossbow-trigger finger was weirdly twitchy. She gritted her teeth and willed it to stop.

Raven tried to smile. "I came to Fandom to visit with friends and relax, but it seems that is rarely possible, is it not? But it is good to see you. I hope that you are well."

Ordinarily she would have been going for a hug, but given what had happened to her, and given what Kennedy was, she was hesitating.

If Raven's empathy wasn't too thrown off by... you know, that whole situation she had going on right now, Kennedy's agitation was probably very evident.

"Ugh. I guess it could be worse, right? I mean, hey, at least I'm not trapped in a hell dimension, as far as I know." She eyed Raven curiously. "Hey, I know I'm not the biggest touchy-feely girl around or anything but what, no hugs?"

"I fear I am not entirely myself," Raven said. "Though I swear I will not hurt you. I am not that far gone. The first day we were here...I was bitten by a vampire. And it has changed me."

Slayer blood was probably very tasty, wasn't it?

Maybe? Kennedy wasn't into that sort of thing though, so who knew?

Also, cue the staring. "You. Were. God, Raven!" Whether she liked it or not, she had the crossbow aimed at Raven now (though her finger wasn't near the trigger) and a full-force glare working, too. "'Oh, hey, Kennedy, how are you, long time no see by the way I might be all fangy now?' Seriously? Except how does that even work? You're already a demon."

Raven really had no idea of the proper etiquette of dropping that bombshell into conversation. "Lovely weather we have been having, would you like some tea, oh, and I am a vampire."

"And I think that is the only reason I have not been fully transformed," Raven said. "The demon that I am does not want to be pushed aside by this new force that is trying to control me. But I am still me. I still have my soul." For now, at least.

But really though, was there even proper etiquette for that sort of thing? Possibly in the Council archives except oops, the First had gone and destroyed those, so no one would ever know now.

"That explains the semi-wiggins," Kennedy muttered. "Yay, me, I can add another souled vampire to the list of ones that I know."

ONE MORE THAN BUFFY. HA, TAKE THAT, SUMMERS.

"...I'm not going to have to, like, keep an eye on you, am I? I mean, do you have to feed or anything?"

HI, I AM A VAMPIRE. ASK ME HOW.

"I do," Raven admitted reluctantly, trying very hard not to eye Kennedy's neck. "I have been wanting to find Mr. Northman to ask how he copes with this hunger. I do not wish to take anyone's blood against their will, but it is not easy to ask someone, either. It is distasteful, but I cannot risk my hunger becoming so strong I lose control. I promised I would not."

This really sucked for a vegetarian.

Kennedy's narrative could make so many jokes about not being a vegetarian. So many. But.

"And of course there's no, like, random TruBlood lying around in one of these stupid dungeon rooms. Damn." She lowered the crossbow-- not that she meant to do it that quickly, but hi traitorous gravity issues-- and sighed. "I guess... if you really have to, I can volunteer."

She figured if it came down to it, she could stop Raven from going too far.

AZAR, KENNEDY.

"You would do that for me?" Raven said, touched. "Thank you. I am not certain how often I must drink to keep the hunger at bay. I have so much to learn, though I am praying this will be undone somehow." Either by whatever was keeping them prisoner being defeated, or by her own demon self triumphing over the invader.

"Never tell her I said this," Kennedy said firmly, "but as long as we've got Buffy around, this group is in pretty good Slayer-y hands. Besides, if anything has to--"

She winced; this brought back some fairly sensitive memories.

"If someone has to stop you somehow, I'd..." She bit her lip and looked down. "Guess I'd feel better knowing it's someone who cares about you, you know?"

Dinah had a makeshift torch that she hadn't lit yet, eskrima sticks, a bag, hey, she was ready to go.

She was still wearing pink leggings and a ridiculously gigantic pregnancy T-shirt with LOVE YOUR BUMP! and silk-screened hand prints on it. Shut up. She was still badass.

"Hey. Anything new?" Dinah smiled a little, and leaned against the wall. Was she going to have to crawl down the corridor on the way back?

"New and exciting varieties of noise out in the shadows? Plus my growing resentment that I haven't had this much trouble carrying around a crossbow since I was ten," offered Kennedy, sparing a moment to chuckle at Dinah's outfit. "Slayer hearing is not doing me any favors right now... nice look you have there."

"Shush. I am the scariest babymama in this dungeon," Dinah told her. She sobered a little, and said, "I think we're missing more people than Pinkie Pie. We should've done a head-count the first night."

Also checked for pulses on people coming back in. Not that Dinah knew that.

"You are kind of terrifying, I'll give you that," Kennedy said with a tired laugh that faded at 'missing more people.'

"Can't save 'em all, can you?" she remembered the First asking in Eve's voice, back in Sunnydale. She winced.

"Yeah, that was stupid of us," she admitted. "On the other hand, I think we picked up a few new ones, so... there's that?"

Re: Camp Two - Corridors out of Camp Two

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2013-04-11 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Raven, a couple others." Dinah rubbed her head, fighting the low-grade headache all the new weight or gravity was hitting her with. Jeez, this kept up too long, she'd start to feel pregnant. "At least there's a chance some of the missing people are in that other camp... you up for an expedition later?"

"Possibly." Oh, crap, Raven. "You know there's a chance we lost a few people to vamps, right? And not necessarily in the last-night's-dinner way. It sort of doesn't help that they probably don't need an invite for a setup like our four-star cave."

"Yeah. Raven told me... well. And Karla had a run-in with some, but got away. Stupid damn vampire-verse." Your home dimension sucks, Kennedy. Had to say it. "I don't know what we can do about that. Ask people to touch a cross as they come back in?" She shrugged helplessly. "Some people were vampires before this started, like that Erik guy."

"Plus the vamp thing has special rules in my world," added Kennedy, sounding very put-upon. Keeping track of the differences was a pain, okay? "I don't know what we can do about it except keep an eye on people. I'm gonna guess magic's out of the question, too, if everyone's powers have gone on the fritz like Karla's."

"Yeah, I'm good on the powers front," Kennedy confirmed, but she grimaced. "Except for the mental-mojo link I have with Will. That's sort of... gone."

She leaned against the wall, which she meant to do more gracefully but gravity took over with a vengeance.

"I feel like a lab rat or something. Like someone's screwing with us just to see what we'll do."

"Yup. And we don't even know what kind of cheese we're working for. If the maze has a way out. How long we stay in here." Dinah grit her teeth. "Lab rats can bite, though. I wonder..."

If she jumped into something full-bore, one of those endless pits, would she find who was in charge? Was there a way to do that, and send a message back? Somehow?
