Wind roars through these hallways - sometimes here, sometimes there. When it passed through, it blew out torches that took several minutes to light again: enough time for a grue to grab the unsuspecting people suddenly blanketed in shadow.
Still, it might be worth venturing out into the halls. The roads to each camp were open.

A Heavy Iron Door
Date: 2013-04-12 08:35 am (UTC)Pushing open this door brings you (a lighthouse, a man--) into the empty underwater realm of Rapture. It's quiet in the large hall you currently occupy, but wait long enough and strange men and women in masquerade masks will come bearing makeshift weapons. And if you wait even longer, you might catch the attention of a little girl and her violent metal protector.
Best not to linger long. Ransack the old desks and machines for leftover food and go, before something deadly decides you've outstayed your welcome.
[ raptureverse! please let us know in the OOC if you'd like us to NPC for you. ]

When no one turned up after a minute, she slunk into the room and started rifling through drawers. One never knew.

His wings were pulled tight against his back and he was barely breathing as he treaded gently through the city that still haunted his nightmares. He could do this. He could handle Rapture, this time.

"Sugoi..." she breathed, looking around. "It looks like a movie set or a video game!" This was so much better than yesterday.
Right. Scavenging. Minako practically skipped around the hall, looking for secret passages out, or anything useful.

A Door Covered In Foliage
Date: 2013-04-12 08:35 am (UTC)Come in and see the splendor of the jungle before you. There are colorful birds and small mammals all over, if you can reach them through the thick brush. Fresh water clatters down from a large rock formation up ahead. The resulting cacophony of noise is loud but seemingly friendly.
And then you hear the first roar of a Tyrannosaurus. Raptors hunt around these woods as well. Take a wrong turn and meet an ornery herbivore like a Stegasaurus, quite willing to defend its territory.
There are dinosaurs in this jungle. Try not to be eaten.

Re: A Door Covered In Foliage
Date: 2013-04-12 01:10 pm (UTC)She ran through the door, panting hard: it had only taken one short hallway and a sharp turn to get here from her camp, but the lights had nearly gone out twice and Gert had zero interest in getting lost in this place in the dark, thank you.
Gert pushed her way through some brush so she could see where she was, and found herself in a jungle full of chirps and hoots and birdsong. It was kind of nice, if you left out the part where she'd just wandered through unknown foliage in shorts and there had to be tons of bite-happy bugs around here who'd only add to that inevitable rash. This was the Mesozoic era, judging from the look of the wildlife, which meant...
Yeah, that dinosaur roar should have inspired fear right away instead of a pang in Gert's heart, but not to worry, the fear came second.
But wait. She knew tons about dinosaurs these days. She could deal with this.

Re: A Door Covered In Foliage
Date: 2013-04-12 07:13 pm (UTC)Orrrrr she could step through and immediately tumble to the ground because her fashionable green and orange shoe landed right in a small patch of Cretaceous tar. Oof. Still, as she struggled to pull her foot free, Bo was counting it as a tentative win; nothing had landed on her head -- or tried to eat it -- yet.
Why, why, why did she have to think the word yet? It was like saying what could possibly go wrong out loud; the second you did, you'd hear booming reptilian roars and feel the earth shake in the distance, and the bushes in front of your face would rustle and echo with higher, shriller cries. Hard to scramble away when you're still unsticking your foot, so Bo just grabbed her fallen baseball bat and brandished it at the quivering foliage, waiting for whatever was about to try to eat her head to burst out.
Except nothing did. The leaves just continued to thrash about, and the shrill calls became less fearsome sounding, and more...desperate? Her foot finally pulling free from the gunk, Bo reached over to carefully push some of the branches aside with the bat.
Trapped, just like she'd been, in a sticky puddle, and shrieking wildly as it tried to free its hind legs from the muck, was a... well, it looked kind of like a Triceratops, but those didn't come in carry-it-to-the-Oscars-in-your-purse size, did they?
Was she really going to... yeah, she really was. "Relax, buddy. How about you shut up and don't summon Godzilla, and I try to get you out of there?"
The answer to that was apparently for the dog-sized lizard to squeal even louder, and snap at her in panic when she reached further into the bushes. "Hey, I'm trying to help! Aren't you supposed to be a vegetarian?"
Fine, so she couldn't get her hands in there if she wanted to keep her fingers. The bat would solve that problem if she wanted to beat it to death, but not so great for impromptu rescues. Bo thought for a moment, then looked down at her feet.
"Hi there, second dumbest idea I've had to today. I was wondering when you'd show up..."
Two minutes later, Bo had a neon green noose in her hand. "Whoopie-ti-yi-yippee-ki-yay."
The first time, she missed and it tried to catch and eat the string like a cat, but on the second toss, the loop settled around the creature's midsection, and Bo started to carefully tug it free.
"There," she said when it tumbled out of the bushes. "Now just let me have my shoelaces back and--"
Run squalling away, dragging her after it if she didn't want to lose the only thing keeping those shoes on her feet besides the sheer gravitational force of ugly.
"Hey! Just--" Crash, shriek, yank yank yank. Lather, rinse, plunge through waist-high marsh grass, repeat...
Dear Mitchell,
went the postcard she was mentally composing.
Today I got dragged through Primeval Playground by a dinosaur on a leash wearing bowling shoes.
Me, not the dinosaur. How's Wales?
love to Nina, George, and Annie,
Bo
Too bad she wasn't able to grab a picture with her phone before the shoelace finally snapped and the critter bounded away into the jungle, still screaming at the top of its lungs.
Another deep roar in the distance. Great. Where had she dropped that bat?

A Blocky Door
Date: 2013-04-12 08:35 am (UTC)That illusion becomes much more real when you step inside. The floor is made of blocks. There are blocks hanging in the impossibly blue sky. Goombas wander around on floor level, seemingly innocent, but deadly if you touch them. Big pipes stick out of the ground, through which occasionally a flower with sharp teeth pops up to eat whatever happens to be near it. And then there's the turtles, just as deadly to the touch as the Goombas, but maybe more so if you take them out: they devolve to turtle shells that shoot around the floor at top speed.
If you're lucky, you'll find the right block, bump your head against it, and grow taller - or gain the power to spit fireballs. So. Good luck to you.
[ any powers gained in this room will last you for the rest of the plot. Let us know if you need us to NPC anything. ]

...It might be, unless you catch the wrong corner of one of the boxes, or you trip over one of the bags, or you wind up touching the wrong patch of the wall. Then you're going to be locked into place. Bouncing up and down at a rapid pace. Stuck in a glitch.
[ because we had to do at least one wacky room! this is the room of glitches. anything can go wrong here. you can turn the wrong color. your hair might keep distorting. you can get stuck by stepping behind a box or bumping into one of its corners. and then you're stuck here for the rest of the plot. sorry. ]
Re: A Shifting Door
Date: 2013-04-12 04:01 pm (UTC)That was about the point where he had to stop and stare down at his feet. Every time he took a step with one foot, he moved along just fine, but his boots themselves didn't seem to be working quite right. It took him a moment to realize that they were moving exactly opposite to the steps he was taking, so that his left boot swung clean through his leg and planted on the floor every time he moved his right foot, and vice-versa.
It was distracting, to say the least, and he wound up tripping over his own feet a few times as he headed back to the door. The door that wouldn't even open again until he walked away from it and came back to it a few more times.
"I... don't even know what just happened, there."

Once he made it through the door, what followed was another brief section of corridor (hence his confusion), and then... glass. A room of it. Glass floor, glass walls, glass ceiling, and plenty of glass shelves with precariously-placed glass ornaments on them.
Okay, so... no more running.
Alec wasn't sure what the point of this room was until he saw a giant dog-headed monster thing come barreling through the hallway on all fours, and without his bow with him today, he realized he was going to have to wrestle it.
