Some paths were lit. Some paths were dark. Some paths slowed you as you walked - but in a way only noticeable by comparison. All paths led to the vault. All paths led, eventually, to the rooms.

None of them led outside, which was a pity, really.

With her new fire power, Jessica found herself wandering farther into the corridors than she really dared before. Before today, the noises and her spider-sense warned her away from going too far into the darkness. But today? Any time the darkness approached she shot a flaming web at the ceiling for a few minutes of illumination until the web collapsed.

Of course, this meant that the whole exploring the dungeon thing was kind of boring. Because once you removed the danger and didn't go into any doors, you were basically just walking a cramped hallway over and over. Oh well.

April walked through the door and immediately came to the conclusion that she hated this place -- her deep loathing of the outdoors had stuck with her through her transformation, and the smell wasn't great either.

Then, however, she found herself something to snack on in the form of a pimple-faced new knight, gaining his sword and surprisingly small boots in the process, and she decided maybe this place didn't suck so much after all. She strapped the sword to her waist with the dead guy's belt before going to look for dessert.

"Oooh this is just like that restaurant!" Okay, maybe it was a bit smellier than that restaurant. And probably wouldn't have food come to you as easily. Too bad.

Gert stomped through the door and thought at first that she had stumbled upon the lair of whoever ran this place. It was an easy mistake to make: as far as Gert was concerned, if there was a room this fancy in a place that was otherwise pretty horrible, it wasn't unfair to assume that the fancy part belonged to whoever was in charge.

She gave the desk what she felt was a well-deserved kick, and just as she was reaching for that stupidly fancy-looking sushi on the desk, she was distracted by a voice.

"Seriously, Gert? You're so predictable."

Gert snapped her head up and found herself face-to-face with Alex Wilder. Translucent, but looking otherwise the same way he had when she'd last seen him, Alex strode toward her from a back door in the corner of the room, and Gert -- Gert just put a hand on her hip and glared. Hard.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Alex didn't exactly look daunted. "Does it matter?" he pointed out reasonably. "You can't do anything about it." He stuck one incorporeal hand through the desk, then out again. "See?"

"Congrats, you've shown off that you're dead," Gert replied. "I'm not, which means I'm pretty sure I don't have to listen to you. Are we done?"

"Why? So you can get back to eating?"

Gert had really, really had enough of this place calling her fat.

"Just get out, Alex," she said, with a note of tiredness in her voice that hadn't been there before. "You're not scaring me or whatever you're supposed to do."

"Now, that doesn't sound like the Gert I know," Alex chided her. "If I remember correctly, your self-esteem should be tanking right now. You don't even have your dinosaur on you to help you pretend you have any firepower whatsoever. Speaking of whom, are you a hundred percent sure she's even alive? You've been gone a while."

Okay, with that look on her face, Gert couldn't even pretend that he wasn't getting to her now.

After spending some time out in the corridors, Jessica decided to pop in and check out one of the doors. Once she got a good look at what the theme was, she made a decision. "I could use some chainmail."

With her powers, it was easy enough to get over the wall and into the castle, but once she was in there, she was lost. "It wouldn't kill them to put up a map with 'You Are Here' on it."

[OOC: Open to camp 1 and the NPC I'll be requesting in the castle.]

I'd like a knightly NPC in the castle here (http://fh-dungeon.livejournal.com/3219.html?thread=854675#t854675), if possible.

Thanks!

Clop, clop, clop...

There was one thing to be said for a fully-armored knight: it was really easy to hear them coming down the hall.

Anyone from Fandom who remembered Rebecca Logan might remember her voice being smooth and clipped most of the time - but if they heard her message from up here on the roof, she sounded a little different.

"Oh my god, what is that?" Rebecca could be shrill when she was panicked about creepy-looking clouds that were interrupting her beachside afternoon with her friends. Who would've guessed? "This was not in the weather forecast. I was told eighty-eight and sunny, not 'A butt-ton of creepy clouds that appear to be advancing from all four sides, not even just the sky', okay? Whatever this is, I'm three hundred percent sure it's related to that weird town in Maryland, so if anyone gets this, would you just--?!"

And then there was a loud sound, not unlike an oncoming wave -- and then Nothing.

Normally, Jessica would find a nice, shadowy corner on the ceiling to crouch in. But, well, she was lost and the medieval equivalent of Google Maps was coming. "Excuse me," she said, popping her head into the hall. "You couldn't tell me where the armory is, could you? Wait. I probably shouldn't have said 'armory.' Um, ladies room?"

The knight came to a sudden stop, his hand flying towards the hilt of his sword. Then he saw the general shape of her head. A girl. "Step forward," he said, "What is your name, girl?"

She was not one of the servants. He knew that.

Jessica raised her hands to show that she meant no harm and stepped out fully into the knight's view. Her argyle sweater vest, pants from space, and bowling shoes probably didn't make for a very period-authentic costume.

"I'm Jessica Drew. I come from York. The new part of it. I was just hoping to get some chainmail to help me survive out there," she said, nodding toward where she was pretty sure the outdoors were. "I mean, clearly, I'm not dressed for the situation."

Natalie had promised to try not going to places alone, and so far she was keeping it. So here she was.

Looking around dubiously. "Does the restaurant also have angry looking knights?"

"Why would a peasant woman need chainmail?"

Especially such an... oddly dressed one. Perhaps she was mad? Grand. He'd find himself in real trouble if someone found out he let a madwoman roam the castle.

The knight began to walk towards her. "You need to leave."

She was raving. Certainly mad.
