Some paths were lit. Some paths were dark. Some paths slowed you as you walked - but in a way only noticeable by comparison. All paths led to the vault. All paths led, eventually, to the rooms.
None of them led outside, which was a pity, really.

Date: 2013-04-13 01:47 pm (UTC)Of course, this meant that the whole exploring the dungeon thing was kind of boring. Because once you removed the danger and didn't go into any doors, you were basically just walking a cramped hallway over and over. Oh well.

Date: 2013-04-13 06:53 am (UTC)Beyond it lays the courtyard of a vast European castle. The skies are cloudy and the smell is... a little pungent. You could probably find something to eat or a torch to steal if you ventured inside the castle itself, but considering the angry-looking knights parading the walls... it might be a better idea to flee the courtyard into the dirty town below.
Most houses in said town barely hold together. There's mud everywhere, and any wrong step can easily get horse or cow dung on your shoes. On the upside, that means there's also chickens - or their eggs - that you can steal.
Of course, there's a) those knights, who'll come after you swords drawn if they catch sight of you, and b) angry townsfolk who might come after you with sticks and stones if they catch you stealing anything...
[ welcome to medieval times! if you need an NPC, you can request one below. ]

She strapped the sword to her waist with the dead guy's belt before going to look for dessert.

Date: 2013-04-13 06:53 am (UTC)... of course, when you step through, it's much less comforting. You stand atop Fandom's rooftop staring into the abyss as it comes towards you - or rather, the rolling clouds that bring the Nothing with them.
If you pay close attention, you might overhear the last messages of people long gone, being shouted into the wind. But it's probably better for everyone if you turn around and leave through the door immediately.
[ nothing room. dropped characters or characters not appearing in this BDE are free to leave messages to anyone who enters here - as if they are being devoured by the Nothing. Muhahaha. ]

Date: 2013-04-13 04:39 pm (UTC)"Oh my god, what is that?" Rebecca could be shrill when she was panicked about creepy-looking clouds that were interrupting her beachside afternoon with her friends. Who would've guessed? "This was not in the weather forecast. I was told eighty-eight and sunny, not 'A butt-ton of creepy clouds that appear to be advancing from all four sides, not even just the sky', okay? Whatever this is, I'm three hundred percent sure it's related to that weird town in Maryland, so if anyone gets this, would you just--?!"
And then there was a loud sound, not unlike an oncoming wave -- and then Nothing.

She paused there, looked straight at anyone who might be listening. "No way are we all coming back again."

And there it cut off, words dropping away to be replaced by only the rush of the wind.

Date: 2013-04-13 06:54 am (UTC)Strangely, there doesn't seem to be much going on on the other side. It just looks like a really expensive office - penthouse, if you look out the window. There's an expensive lunch sitting on the expensive hardwood desk above the expensive hardwood floor, and there are other typical office bits and bobs everywhere that might come in handy.
It may take a moment, or even two, before the catch sets in: a ghost, someone from your past, sweeping in. No one else can see it, but you can. And it'll whisper in your ear until you obey.

Re: A Thick Wooden Door
Date: 2013-04-13 04:16 pm (UTC)She gave the desk what she felt was a well-deserved kick, and just as she was reaching for that stupidly fancy-looking sushi on the desk, she was distracted by a voice.
"Seriously, Gert? You're so predictable."
Gert snapped her head up and found herself face-to-face with Alex Wilder. Translucent, but looking otherwise the same way he had when she'd last seen him, Alex strode toward her from a back door in the corner of the room, and Gert -- Gert just put a hand on her hip and glared. Hard.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Alex didn't exactly look daunted. "Does it matter?" he pointed out reasonably. "You can't do anything about it." He stuck one incorporeal hand through the desk, then out again. "See?"
"Congrats, you've shown off that you're dead," Gert replied. "I'm not, which means I'm pretty sure I don't have to listen to you. Are we done?"
"Why? So you can get back to eating?"
Gert had really, really had enough of this place calling her fat.
"Just get out, Alex," she said, with a note of tiredness in her voice that hadn't been there before. "You're not scaring me or whatever you're supposed to do."
"Now, that doesn't sound like the Gert I know," Alex chided her. "If I remember correctly, your self-esteem should be tanking right now. You don't even have your dinosaur on you to help you pretend you have any firepower whatsoever. Speaking of whom, are you a hundred percent sure she's even alive? You've been gone a while."
Okay, with that look on her face, Gert couldn't even pretend that he wasn't getting to her now.

Date: 2013-04-13 06:54 am (UTC)Take a step inside, and the first thing that strikes you is the wind. This is the very top of Fandom's dorms, the roof. The force of the storm currently in progress can knock small items over the edge of the roof and out into the water or the preserve.
Sometimes shadows pass by above. They are too large to belong to ordinary birds, and they seem to exhibit menace... doubly so when the creatures themselves actually land and reveal themselves to be what they are: grotesques made out of unsuspecting animals. Gray monsters with black eyes that screech and tear at anything that comes close enough.
And they are contagious.
[ welcome back the blasted heath. stay too long, or get struck too hard, and you too will catch it, at least until the end of the plot. for our purposes, the infection will develop rapidly: within the day, you'll find yourself a monster... guidelines are here. let us know if you need an npc! ]
