The Vault, Somewhere, Sunday Morning

The vault door stood large and broad in the hallway - so large and broad that it was as if the corridor itself had had to grow several sizes to accommodate it. It was a dark red, and its surface was almost completely smooth but for the slots where three keys would fit.

It exuded quiet menace.

"You're just jealous," Priestly said, jumping over one of the spiders and using the tail for enough hang time to land on top of the next.

Not his best plan. It was like trying to land on a moving bowling ball. "Shit!"

He had a feeling he'd be saying that a lot, today.

"Eye on the ball, Priestly," Dean shot back, shaking his head. No way would he be jealous of a weird tail. And ears.

You mean adorable tail and ears. That sometimes got scritched by pretty girls.

"Which ball? There are, like, a million balls! And they're all shaped like evil death spider robots!"

Excuse you, this wasn't anime. And he would prefer them on a hot, scantily-clad chick.

"Well, keep an eye on all of 'em!"

"Exactly how many eyes do you think I have?" Priestly whacked another spider aside, then flailed Dean with his good arm. "Stop looking all calm about the robot spiders of death!"

He was stabbing things! It was his element!

"Dude, this is a whole new level of freakin' weird for me," Dean assured him. "It's like being in some messed up comic book."

". . . Okay, I guess I can't really argue with that." What with the ears and the tail and all. He thwacked another spider, accidentally sending it flying in Dean's direction. "Uh, heads!"

They could be the dynamic duo of Hunter and the Tanuki!

Dean ducked down, only coming back up once it had been stabbed into submission. And then he just gave Priestly a look.

Hey, Priestly was already a sidekick to one hero, thank you very much.

"What? You try aiming with a freaking tail."

CRUSH DEAN'S DREAMS, WHY DON'T YOU?

"Try hitting them to the other side, okay?" he snapped instead of addressing the tail thing again.

Priestly thwacked another spider aside almost idly -- in the other direction, yes. He was getting the hang of this tail thing!

"I dunno, man, you're the one with the freaking machete. Maybe we should work together on this."

His machete was pretty awesome...

Dean shrugged, stabbing down into one of the spiders that got a little too close. "Pick 'em off one by one then," he said, yanking the blade out. "And warn a guy before sending them over."

"I said --" *thwack* "-- shit, heads!"

You know how sometimes cats and dogs don't seem to be entirely in control of their own tails?

Yeah.

"Damn it, Priestly!" Dean was down and frantically stabbing the thing from his spot on the floor.

"Dude, seriously, it's like trying to swing a baseball bat with your ass." Priestly had the soul of a poet, he did. "A baseball bat with a mind of its own." He rushed over to help, then stopped, realizing that getting into machete range was probably not a great idea. "Uh. Need a hand?"

Which was not something anyone ever needed to say. Ever.

"I'm fine," Dean grumbled, pulling himself up with help from the machete. Because this was his new best friend.

Just wait until he ended up in purgatory, Priestly. Huge fan of blades.

Well, they could bond over complicated relationships with vampires, then, too.

Priestly swept his tail back and forth, trying to make sure the spiders didn't swarm Dean while he was getting up. "If this were a comic book," he said. "We'd get rid of these things by taking out the giant, master robot spider of death."

Oh, Benny...

"...is there one?" Dean, no!

"Dunno," Priestly admitted. "I haven't done robot spiders of death before."

"Just keep killing these ones. If it's like a video game, the boss'll show up eventually."

"Yeah, just as soon as we're too exhausted to keep fighting."

Or that might just be him. He was still running on some blood-loss from the arrow, yesterday.

Damn it, Priestly! Stop trying to be like a self-sacrificing Winchester!

"That's how it works."

It wasn't self-sacrificing, arrows just didn't like him.

"Seriously, dude. Way to calm about this. I'd almost say you must've done one of the Fandom weeks of horror before."

"Not quite like this," Dean said, hacking the leg off a wayward spider. "Less demons involved here."

"Shush," Priestly said. "You'll give them ideas."

Yeah, he didn't know who "them" was, but he was pretty paranoid these days about tempting fate.
