Dungeon Residential Camps, Somewhere, Wednesday, Day Two of Two

At Fandom, the sun reached its highest point in the sky. Down (or was it up?) here in the dungeon, a next day broke, each hour occupying the space of only half. It was only noticeable to those with keen senses, or those who might've kept an eye on the fireplaces: the figurines had switched places again as night changed.

Well. It might have also been noticeable to anyone who'd wandered into a room with a sky and a visible sun.

"A lesson in investing in flannel pajamas, maybe," Natalie replied dryly. "How's your face?"

"Not as pretty as normal," Cade replied, "but I'll live. Of course, I haven't seen a mirror, so I might be really optimistic."

She got up to come closer and take a look. Mostly to keep herself busy than for any huge concern over his face, honestly.

Cade tilted his head into what passed for the light here. "Least we're not feeling the urge to rip each other's clothes off any more," he said. "Could be the karking shoes..."

"I kicked one of your grandparents in the ribs with these shoes," Natalie shared, peering at his bruise. The best they could do here was check for cuts and clean those, really. "They're growing on me."

Natalie sighed. "There was a version of Fandom behind one of the doors, the first day. And there was a version of Ender there."

"And you kicked him in the ribs?" Cade still looked confused. "I thought it'd be Ben you'd want to kick. He's really karking obnoxious."

"Well, he was a demon or a vampire or something," she retorted, but mildly. Flatly, almost. "And tried to kill me, so I felt it was warranted."

Cade stared at her. "He karking what?!"

"You heard me."

Really now, Cade? Was that such a surprising thing to hear when you were trapped in a random dungeon?

Of course people probably didn't usually sound so cavalier about it, but still.

Well, it wasn't really Cade's first random dungeon, but normally he knew what he'd done to be stuck in it...

"And you got away." There was a touch--more than a touch--of admiration in his tone. "He had a bit of a reputation."

"Luck," Natalie replied dismissively. "Think whatever his paranormal affliction was screwed him over a bit." Once you got focused on biting someone's neck, you stopped paying attention to other things. "Doesn't mean I escaped unscathed, but I'm alive."

It was just that her bruises were all under her clothes.

Cade wasn't really good at expressing concern, so he just pressed his lips together.

"Good," he said finally when it was becoming obvious he should say something. "It'd karking suck if my grandfather killed you."

Natalie wasn't great at receiving other people's concern, so that worked out okay. Somehow.

"Yes. Yes it would." See? "Your face is fine, by the way. It'll heal."

"And your stuff?" Cade asked.

"Will also heal." It would just take a while. The bruise on her hip was pretty spectacular. "Nothing broken."

Cade didn't look entirely convinced but he wasn't going to push it. "If you say so."

Natalie rolled her eyes, 'if you say so' being one of those phrases that just sounded like 'I'm not buying it but okay' to her.

"I just have a few impressive bruises. You're free to look them over but I doubt it'll do much."

"It'll impress me with how much of a badass you are," Cade said, "but I know that already."

There were circumstances where Natalie would've at least half smiled at that. But this wasn't it.

The lighting here was dim, but her skin was very pale, so when she rolled the hem of her t-shirt up some, and pulled the waist of her pajama bottoms down a little bit to expose a wide strip of skin, the bruises were obvious. One low on her stomach, a bigger one on her hip.

"They're just a little sore."

Cade hissed in a breath. "Echuta. Think there's ice packs around?"

"Haven't looked but I doubt it." Because that would just be too convenient, wouldn't it? "I'll deal."

"There doesn't seem to be another option here," Cade agreed.

"Not until we get out of here," Natalie agreed with a nod, covering up her bruises again. "But if we stay smart, we will."
